Jets Defense forces turnovers again in 20-7 win at Colts

It was a great win against the Browns to start the Todd Bowles era for the New York Jets and if what you saw from the defense and some of the great plays on offense got you giddy, well friends you got a second dose of what this Jets defense can do with a healthy & potent front seven and secondary that will force the opposition’s top Quarterbacks into tough plays and tons of turnovers.

But when you thought there was going to be a tougher test to face Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium, once again Todd Bowles defense forced Luck to make silly mistakes, got stripped and throwing three interceptions that once again the Jets earned five interceptions that gave the team a total of ten in two games.

But the game changer was in the 3rd quarter as Frank Gore who is playing in his first season with the Colts gets a handoff from Luck and as he cuts to his left, all of a sudden fumbles the ball and lost it at the goal line where Darrell Revis recovered it for a touchback at the goal line. Revis who has been rejuvenated since coming back to the Jets has intercepted one ball and picked up three fumble recoveries.

The offense has done a good job in this game even though they only scored twenty points but stayed ahead as the Colts never scored in the first three quarters of this game. A nice six yard throw to Eric Decker inside the end zone to open the scoring after a Calvin Pryor interception, but once again the big beast on the outside is Wide Receiver Brandon Marshall.

Marshall forces the corners to hold him and gets the flag for either holding or pass interference & that drove Vonte Davis crazy as he just couldn’t cover him all night long. Marshall has been the #1 Wide Receiver the Jets have sorely needed since Plaxico Burress was on the team and when the Jets made that 4th quarter drive that Marshall got held, made a great catch and continued to fight and claw his way into the end zone near the far side pylon. You see no quit at all trying to get the Jets back that ten point lead.

While the running game wasn’t good enough in this game, that’s o.k. because the other attacks were better and the passing game was solid. But now it’s a short week heading back home to face the Philadelphia Eagles and possibly taking on Mark Sanchez, but we shall see what Chip Kelly has in mind as the Eagles are starting the season at 0-2 and that’s going to be a dangerous situation.
